For most, extracting teeth still remains a daunting task. The reasons are multiple: lack of dental knowledge, lack of anatomy knowledge, poor equipment, wrong equipment, lack of equipment, poor or wrong techniques. This lecture will cover the anatomy one should be cognizant of when extracting a tooth. It will demonstrate the proper instruments to use, highlighting the differences between elevators and luxators. It will sho why luxators are better designed for veterinary dentistry. It will also show the proper techniques to follow to remove roots efficiently while minimizing the chances of breakage and/or of damage to the surrounding structures.
