“Extraction sites should always be sutured closed”; easier said than done. This lecture will demonstrate the flaps to create to close extraction sites of each and every one of the teeth in cats and dogs. It will review the concepts of preserving attached gingiva, of vertical releasing cuts, of no tension and of appropriate suturing. It will also cover techniques to successfully close oronasal fistulae using advancement and rotational flaps with or without a bone or cartilage membrane. The pros and cons of each technique will be discussed. Following this lecture the student should be able to confidently closed any extraction site.
