The primary aim of this presentation is to give general practitioners a flow chart to guide them through management of periodontal diseases in their patients. At the end of the presentation they should be able to conceptualise the pathway for managing periodontal disease in different patients and understand the different influencing factors that may inhibit and assist control of the disease. They should be capable of making an individual periodontal plan for a patient.

Content:
  • Periodontal disease and how it occurs
  • The stages and progression of periodontal disease
  • The tools used to diagnose and record periodontal disease
  • Specific treatments for periodontal disease at different stages
  • Formulation of a periodontal plan and modification of the plan as you navigate through the patient’s lifespan
